A Daring Thief. Impossible Odds. The Ultimate Heist.
In 2002, A company called Sucker Punch Productions created a game entitled Sly Cooper and the Thievious Raccoonus, which told the story of a cunning and witty raccoon who came from a long line of master thieves. In his quest to uphold the family creed by stealing only from other criminals, Sly and his two childhood friends--Bentley, a brilliant and nerdy turtle; and Murray, a boisterous hippo with a big appetite and a talent for driving--traveled through a series of lush and colorful environments, battling a rogue's gallery of memorable villains while dodging the pursuit of the hot-blooded Carmelita Fox.
The result was an adventure worthy of the best Saturday cartoons, complete with a beautiful soundtrack, entertaining dialogue, and incredible potential for more. A couple of years later, Sucker Punch followed up on that potential by producing a pair of sequels, expanding upon the original story by showcasing the further adventures of Sly and his friends as they pulled off daring heists against more villainous criminals across the globe. Along the way, the recurring cast saw a degree of development not usually seen in these sorts of games--Bentley was badly injured and ended up in a high-tech wheelchair, Murray became a ham-fisted strongman, and Sly began to mature as he realized the deep bond he shared with his friends...and slowly developed feelings for Carmelita Fox, the Interpol detective who kept chasing him.
Though the story of Sly Cooper is currently being carried on by Sanzaru Games, a great deal of potential for expanding upon it remains. That's the purpose of this endeavor--to bring the charming and colorful world of Sly and his colorful friends and foes to a wider audience.
